Event gilbert bottoms out (by HanKFranK)
     hurricane gilbert set the record low measured barometric pressure for the western hemisphere in 1988, at 888 mb. not coincedentally, the surface winds were 185 mph. the system had just recently scoured jamaica, and was on its way to two mexican landfalls.

gilbert's record low barometric pressure was exceeded by hurricane wilma on october 19, 2005.
