DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 AM EDT (0600 UTC), the newly formed tropical storm was centered near latitude 28.6 North, longitude 77.5 West. Alex is moving toward the northeast near 18 mph (30 km/h). A continued northeast to east-northeast motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the tropical storm is expected to move away from the northwestern Bahamas and move near or to the north of Bermuda on Monday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (80 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is possible in the next day or so but gradual weakening is expected by early next week. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km) east of the center. The minimum central pressure recently indicated by the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters was 995 mb (29.38 inches).
