Interests in the Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Danny. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Danny was located near latitude 13.7 North, longitude 47.4 West. Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next day or so. A turn toward the west is forecast by Saturday night. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is possible today, but Danny should begin to weaken on Saturday. Danny is a tiny hurricane. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 10 miles (20 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km).
