DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 PM AST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Gaston was located near latitude 12.6 North, longitude 30.7 West. Gaston is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 mph (30 km/h) and this general motion with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected, and Gaston is forecast to become a hurricane Tuesday night or Wednesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
