DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Gaston was located near latitude 32.0 North, longitude 54.0 West. Gaston is moving toward the northeast near 6 mph (9 km/h). A general motion toward the east-northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km).
