DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 1100 PM EDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Julia was
located near latitude 31.5 North, longitude 77.1 West. Julia is
moving toward the east-southeast near 5 mph (7 km/h). A slow and
erratic motion offshore of the coasts of South Carolina and North
Carolina is anticipated during the next 2 days.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher
gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 12
hours or so, but gradual weakening is anticipated thereafter.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km)
to the east of the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb (29.74 inches).
