A HURRICANE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS... INCLUDING CAT ISLAND...THE EXUMAS...LONG ISLAND...RUM CAY...AND SAN SALVADOR. INTERESTS IN THE NORTHWESTERN BAHAMAS SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF JEANNE. AT 11 AM AST...1500Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM JEANNE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 19.5 NORTH...LONGITUDE 71.2 WEST. THIS POSITION IS INLAND OVER NORTHWESTERN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC NEAR SANTIAGO AND IS ABOUT 140 MILES... 225 KM...SOUTH OF GRAND TURK ISLAND. JEANNE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 8 MPH...13 KM/HR... AND A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 65 MPH...100 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
