DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Helene was located near latitude 42.5 North, longitude 28.4 West. Helene is moving toward the northeast near 25 mph (41 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue with an increase in forward speed during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, Helene should move away from the Azores today and then approach Ireland and the United Kingdom tonight and Monday. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Little, if any, change in strength is forecast, and Helene is expected to become an extratropical cyclone today. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles (260 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 993 mb (29.33 inches).
