As the season gets close to a start, it's important to note that Florida's residents have a "holiday" from sales tax from June 1st until June 12th. No sales tax will be charged on hurricane preparedness items, so there is no excuse this year.

Wonderful! One question... do we know if this holiday will be given yearly, or only for the 2005 season?

I think it should also apply to gasoline...

I'd rather pay the $37 on my $529 generator and beat the crowd.... stores are stocked today, but tomorrow they will be sold out.

Just curious - how did this idea get introduced and implemented so fast? Or was it something already in the works before Florida experienced 4 storms last year?
Wish Texas had something like this - but I think it will take us getting 4 hurricanes before they even look at the idea.

We have had it except for... I think last year... it was done for the school year in the beginning but with our season last year it was extended and hype placed on the hurricane season.

Well, tomorrow's the big day. Seems like it's not been long enough. Wondering if repairs still need to be made, should I just wait? No need to do it twice. As for the tax free time, I think I'll wait til the big rush is over. Maybe I'm just prolonging the inevitable.
Buckle up everyone!!

Home Depot was allowing people to purchase those tax free items, including generators, before 6/1 and return after 6/1 for the refund of the tax monies paid. I called some local Home Depot's this evening and they were already sold out of the generator I was interested in. With 50 minutes to spare, 13/6/4.
