Saturday September 3rd derecho in MN
      #53669 - Sat Sep 03 2005 07:40 PM

Well it looks like the derecho that hit the Twin Cities a little while ago has organized even better, gotten stronger, and is looking very impressive as it steamrolls down to the SE corner of the state. As of 6:30pm it is about to hit Rochester. Reported straight-line winds of 50-60mph.

Classic MCC event; very good depiction in satellite imagery earlier today, looked better than some of the tropical waves we've seen out there (which isn't uncommon for these things, though they obviously aren't tropical). Nice wave rolling around the east side of the upper-level ridge in the midwest US.

Crap; the sirens just went off...just looked at the radar and another piece of it rolling in, and this one looks worse than the initial front. Looks to hit me straight on...hail has started to fall.

Back in a bit, guys.

Sigh...another one [Re: Clark]
      #53839 - Tue Sep 06 2005 12:38 AM

It is 11:30pm Labor Day and I've been seeing lightning to the west for about an hour now...checked the radar and a real huge line of severe thunderstorms sweeping across MN. Looks like another derecho but I'm not 100% sure. Could be that it is organizing into one?

Anyway looks to hit in an hour and be pretty ugly.
