Hi everybody,
I am a big fan of the GNU/Linux operating system and of Debian in particular. One of the neatest Debian wallpaper I have ever seen is this one:
http://wallpaper.deklik.org/debian/debian039.jpg (or download attachment)
Can anyone identify these islands and/or, even better, the hurricane used on this photo?
Many thanks,
VS

The large island is hispanola, the small one on the bottom is Puerto Rico. THis image is tipped on its side. The top of the page is east. Don't know the storm, but that is the area.

Jeeze! I should have thought about that How stupid of me - I simply assumed the top was North and started scratching my head for what I was looking at....
Thanks a lot for setting me (and the photo) straight ;-) !
Kind regards & good luck for the rest of the season,

Actually the top of the page is west.
Large island is as stated and Puerto Rico is just below it on the left side of page
The smaller island just outside the storm cloud is one of the Turks or Caicos islands.
Mayaguana comes to mind...but I'm real rusty in that area.
Possibly could be a picture of Andrew '92. But something tells me the satellite pic wasn't that good back then.
Georges '98 also passed through the same area.

Could it be an enhanced picture of hurricane Andrew?
Alhough Floyd does look very similar on the picture you linked to
By the way - do you have some really good statellite pictures of a large hurricane you could reccommend? I find them just so beautiful and awesome! They are truly a fantastic sight. If yes - could you please post some links?
Many thanks in advance,

While Googling trying to figure out the answer to the question, I stumbled across this site:

I didn't know whether to laugh or hope he doesn't get his hands on a really sharp object!

It's a MODIS image from their Rapidfire gallery. Boo on them for not citing the image! Haha. Anyway.
It's Isabel.

I bet you the reason why the US refused to adhere to the Kyoto agreement was because the Department of Homeland Security knew that only more gas emissions would protect America's innocents against these hurricane-slinging terrorits
