Heat Advisory
      #85631 - Sun Jun 21 2009 09:06 AM

Under mostly clear skies and southwesterly flow, a few locations in central Florida will hit the century mark today - an uncommon event in Florida. Stay cool on this Father's Day First Day of Summer. Record high temperature for this date is 98 in Melbourne, Daytona Beach and Orlando.

My thermometer reached 100.3 on my back porch today! You are right about 100 being rare in Florida, but most people are surprised to hear that. I can't remember when I last saw an official triple digit temp anywhere in peninsular Florida! Sure hope the rain comes back later in the week!

New Orleans/ Slidell NWS has been looking at the records for their Area.

I BELIEVE WE WILL
SEE A FEW SITES TOP OUT AT OR JUST ABV 100 DEGREES TOMORROW AFTN
WITH A FEW MORE LOCATIONS ON TUE AND WED. THIS IS PRETTY SIGNIFICANT
SINCE IT IS DIFFICULT ENOUGH TO HIT 100 DEGREES DOWN HERE BUT TO DO
IT IN JUNE IS PRETTY EXTREME. IF BTR (Baton Rouge,La) CAN HIT 100 OVER THE NEXT FEW
DAYS IT WILL ONLY BE THE 10TH TIME THAT HAS OCCURRED IN THE MONTH OF
JUNE SINCE RECORDS WERE KEPT AND THE 13TH TIME FOR MCB(McComb,Ms). IF BY ANY
CHANCE MSY(New Orleans Moisant Airport) CAN TOP OUT AT 100 THEN THIS WILL ONLY BE THE SECOND TIME
THERE WITH THE ONLY OTHER 100 DEGREE JUNE DAY OCCURRING ON THE 30TH
IN 1954.

Records for my area. June 21st through June 24th,
respectively. They go way back.
KHBG 99 (1970) 97 (1960) 99 (1960) 98 (1952)

CHECKING THE RECORDS FOR KMOB(Mobile,Al Bates Airport)...IF WE HIT 95 DEG(F) THE NEXT
THREE DAYS...IT WILL BE THE EIGHTH LONGEST CONSECUTIVE STRING FOR THE
PERIOD OF RECORD...AND IF WE HIT 95 DEG THE NEXT FIVE DAYS IT WILL BE
TIED FOR FIFTH ALL TIME.

Here in Central Texas we've been in heat advisories a bunch of times so far this year. I lost track of how many 100+ days we've had and went to check - today will make 30.

Normally we're in the 90's with avg 12 100F days.

With the drought , the heat is even worse than any time I can remember short of Dallas in 1980 - lots of broken records w/ highs 103-107 officially and 2-3 degrees hotter than that at our house.

We're seeing old trees - even mesquites dying.

Hopefully El Nino will bring rain the fall!

WOW, even the mesquite is dying!
Didn't think you could kill it with anything short of a barbeque grill.

That's what I thought .... but this summer on top of last summer has been brutal. It was 106 at our house today, officially 105.

Update - now at 65 days over 100. All time record is 69, second highest is 66. Still in exceptional drought. Went to Stage 2 water restrictions yesterday - watering once a week.

That includes soaker hoses - we can only use them the same day we water. Makes no sense to me - most people now are using the soaker hoses for their foundations.

The only up side? We haven't mowed in 2 months. The downside? 3 more hackberry trees fell. They're not in our yard, but they used to shade our yard.
