The South Pacific is active - the western eyewall of Tropical Cyclone Pam is brushing the southern islands of Vanuatu with sustained winds of 145 knots and a central pressure of 918MB. There are no weather reporting stations in the immediate area. Pam is expected to intensify to 150 knots with gusts to 180 knots in the next 6 to 12 hours while moving south and pass well to the east of Noumea, New Caledonia.
Earlier today, Tropical Cyclone Olwyn hit Learmonth, Western Australia, with sustained winds of 73 knots.
