Gems From Today
      #17110 - Fri Jul 30 2004 08:22 PM

A few jewels gleaned from todays posts. The names have been omitted to protect the guilty:

Question:
Can I post a cool picture of Hur. Isabelle on here?
Answer:
You can, but we you have to be registered user to upload (I wonder which one has to be registered???)

Oh yeah, this is a WEATHER forum. (REALLY!!! - Lately I never would have guessed)

since it says that the recon will determine if a tropical or subtropical depression has formed, does this mean that it is very likely that the system will be classified? (??? - what is the classification if they determine that neither has formed?)

I'll say we have a TD by this afternoon. (Smart forecast - he didn't say where)

talk about oozy systems (isn't that a semi-automatic weapon?)

Still curious about the gathering of convection and moisture south and over Western Cuba, which seems to have a life of its own?
(I think that Cuba has been that way for years)

The AVN tries to put twins out there within a week..... (Naw, I'm not even going to go there)

NHC has lost some credibility with me (I guess that means that they must have had some. How is YOUR credibility with NHC? Mine is good!)

moving slowly under a large upper level ridge in bath Gulf waters always bears watching (Hmmm - a peeping Investite)

All in fun.
Cheers,
ED

Ed, that was beautiful...let me add some from August 3, 2004 (including some of my own...wouldn't be fair to leave them out)

Names will be kept private to protect the guilty:

"Does this mean it's 2 for Tuesday? Cat 2 and TD2."
>That's just plain funny.

"I am declaring TD2 a fish except for the northern antilles. Stick a hook in it...its off to the hurricane graveyard.

(On the other hand, i declare that Anonymous declarations without explanations are probably about as reliable as some of the models )
ED"
>ED beat me to this one

"I see the track forecast puts Alex as a 50kt storm in your area in 2 days."
>Referring to TD2...unless Alex were to make a 270 degree "about face" and really die down, I think Luis is safe from Alex (hitting PR).

"the GFDL brings 92L to a tropical storm in 36 hours"
>Varmint's first post on 92L

"I just can bite on all the models forecast of 91L thru the N part of the islands yet"
>Huh?

"the position advisories seem to be comming in every hour"
>Just an example of the HanKFranK school of spelling

"it was an actual advisory. the next one come at 3pm instead of 2.
>Daylight come an me won go home

"Also....what is the purpose of showing an 11 hour old quiksat?"
>Think it was the link, not the source

"according to the 4pm position, Alex is at 745.8 longitude "
>where is that, on the moon?

"The best example of this is a 1000mb estimate of Isabel's central pressure last year by the GFS/AVN when it was a Cat 5 hurricane."
>And what does GFS stand for?

"Don't believe everything you read Rabbit...there is no such thing as 745.8 Longitude....74.58° maybe??"
>Post speaks for itself

"Well, I was wrong on TD2 being Bonnie at 5:00"
>called contrition

"forgot to log in for that post
get kicked off any time i leave the site "
>we can make that happen

"An example of one storm in August that didn't turn north and came from the same neighborhood about this time of year was Andrew in '92."
>let's hope not

"Hatteras now looks like it is just sticking out into the eye:-"
>Didn't know geography moved

"i've been there all morning but cant get the hirt update."
>Big hurt

"She will develop. She is not Debby, Debbie or Debra.. she isn't a fish and she isn't a duck."
>Just cuz

"look at the time on the TD2 Scatterometer
There is no closed low, but this is also from 11 hours ago"
>Um, why?

"Also....what is the purpose of showing an 11 hour old quiksat?"
>See above

"This will likely be downgraded to a wave when the recon plane gets there tomorrow and finds a sharp wave. I'll give it another 18 hours at best"
>Anyone agree?

"Think it could go both ways"
>Sorry, couldn't resist

"varmint is already calling for it's quick demise (says it's already dead even), but i think it has other plans."
>Amen, HF

Cheers, all, all in good fun!

>Heh

" I was digging the Morehead City radar all day"
>Is that a "dirty" site?

"all I can do is hope it's nothing serious and just sets the table for a good tropical wave drink, surf and smoke fest. Party on Island dudes!"
>You do mean cigarettes, right?

"It's Wild Turkey 101 night (over ice with a splash of tap water)"
>Don't you have school in the morning?

"I still think that this system, if it can survive the next couple of days, will make it to TS status - probably late Thursday or early Friday"
>If not, I like my crow open-fire roasted, with melted gorgonzola and capers

"Couple of late night notes. 1) this drink is very strong. 2) I'll check the comedy stuff soon."
>So far, you're the star of the show

"I would like to THANK everyone on this site for their posts. From when I was able to check in - this message board has the best updated information and most accurate forecasts.

I commend Ed, LI Phil, HankFrank, Mike C. and John C for running such an outstanding board."
>Thank the Bros. Cornelius (some posters are polite)

"I'm trying to get a feel for what she's doing, but this is just about how they did it a hundred years ago........ "
>But that was before Al Gore invented the Internet

"I think the models are out to lunch with this one"
>That's because they were hungry

"Not much happening in Trinidad"
>That's their new Board of Tourism slogan

"Grenada doesn't look like much either"
>Yeah, I dated her once and I agree

"Hello James"
>Hello anon

"Looks more and more like Rabbit has the call on TD#2. He gets due credit if his prediction comes through but then again he also has those college text books and fancy programs..."
>Yep. Dem college boys

"I still foresee development and a deep penetration into the Carribean before recurvature."
>Do you have her phone number?

"Bugsy could be right on this one too."
>And we know he hates to be right

"So technically they're issuing advisories on a tropical wave?"
>Well, it's the NHC, dummy

"remember Alex next time y'all want to count out a storm real early on"
>Yeah. Now I'm taking my ball and going home

"If it turns to the right slightly it will take it right up the Bristol Channel and River Severn estuary to the county where Rich B and I live."
>You guys live together? Hope you're just friends.

""Will go with the speed demon theory...misses the trof...survives the graveyard...gets into the GOM. Then heads straight for Rickonboat as a CAT V."

Love it...I should be so lucky."
>Good to have you back Rick

"If you are on a boat....whatever mooring you have won't withstand a CAT V. Why on earth would you "love it"?? "
>Newbie

"First rain band, he's five states away from Mobile anyway."
>Long time poster

"If a cat 3 hit....my 34' trawler is toast. At least with a cat 5, I won't waste time trying to shore up the lines. ha!"
>ha indeed

"If an Andrew hit...body bags..'"
>Cannot in good conscience make a sarcastic remark

"Well, he does look great on satellite."
>He's even better looking in person...the camera puts on 10 pounds

"look at Alex's eye"
>Why, he's got glaucoma

"Bobbi's little girl is looking rough right now but you know she gets frisky at night."
>(There were a lot of ways I could go with this one, but settled for this) Don't you be talking about Bobbi's daughter that way

"I was laughing when I posted that response."
>And they say you can't walk and chew gum at the same time

"Thanks Phil for the Mid-Day WV Loop break..."
>That reminds me, you never paid me for the last one

"most people tracked it until it reached a neighborhood bar in Oklahoma and ordered Poneys for dinner."
>Hurricanes can order drinks?

"The bottom half seems to have disapeered."
>Reviewing the fashion statement of Rabbit's icon (avatar)

"Oh great, you are doing another one of those today"
>If the people like it, it may be a recurring theme.

Q:"Anyone think this is a CAT III?"
A:"I think it could be - looks more organised than a CAT 2."
>Yeah, it went to Home Depot and got some boxes and stuff

"Give Rabbit the carrot!"

"Shows you.. one should never drink and drive.. never mix meds and stay off those herbal cocktails."
>Best off topic post EVER on these boards

"She was like on speed or something.
>Naw, just crushed up Vivarin snorted the night before cramming for the big final...stayed up all night...went to take a "quick" 6:00 am nap. And slept through the test.

"Sorry Phil but looks like Rabbit got this one right."
>Will you people STOP reminding me of that

"I'm with you Phil, I'm not giving up yet."
>Till death do us part

"the heretic Rabbit who is obviously descended from the red-eyed beast guarding the cave in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and not the animated carrot-chomping varmint he purports to be. Nee!"

>OK, so that was my own...shoot me

"Will go with the speed demon theory...misses the trof...survives the graveyard...gets into the GOM. Then heads straight for Rickonboat as a CAT V"
