I have been through a CAT 3 hurricane, Alicia back in '83. I was 11 yrs old and it scared the crap out of me because we lived in a mobile home at that time. I've also been through Allison and all the flooding she brought to our area. I don't want any part of that again and I wish that nobody would have to go through it.
P.S.
SoonerShawn is for my beloved Oklahoma Sooners. I end with ShawnS because that is how most of you know me...as we've seen.

The area inside the lines is supposed to have a dewpoint of -24C or more. They have found this is normally a cutoff for thunderstorm formation. It's also handy to use during tornado season.

Terra, per a post on Storm2K which had a forum on NO evacuations....
""NO EVACUATIONS (BE IT MANDATORY OR VOLUNTARY) ARE SET AT THIS TIME. There is going to be a meeting at 11:00am Monday morning. Nothing will be done until enters the GOM."""
here is the link if you want to view all the posts..

Thanks.... maybe what I read before was a misinterpretation and what was said was that they'd talk about evacuations tomorrow. I'll register for that forum and see what it's all about. Thanks again.

When can we expect recon back in the storm sending vortex messages?

Thanks. The link under the loop refers to a dissertation by Melvin Martin titled "The relationship between water vapor and hurricane track using the GOES-8 satellite" and says the line is discussed therein. I was wondering if anyone knew anything regarding this line and its effect on the track.

I have been lurking around the last week or so and have learned so much!! Since I spend so much time on this site now, I have just registered. I would love someone in the know to discuss what's out there to steer this monster and when and what is going to make take that northerly turn?

At 2310Z (about a half hour ago) they were at 20.7N 84.3W, so they should be there soon.

LOL... So true... we are probably watching them closer than anyone but the . Did anyone notice earlier that some of the obs did not follow the usual format? Some lower case was included, also column headings on the supplementary message. I'm not complaining, just found it interesting.

actually, no, I hadn't. Oh, the supp. message, I didn't check. As it gets closer, I am wondering if there will be more missions. Also, in the Gulf, I am assuming there is more data gathering ability.

The "funny" recon messages are from a WC-130 J model. The newer model with the composite props. The J model displays different data on the Vortex and Supp reports.

There are links on this site to recon data, but the link is here TPC Recon
Select "RECCO Observations (tropical cyclones)" and this will give you the latest recon location data. You'll need to read the "How to read" link to decode it. But the lat and long of each observation is reported, and when they are on their way there, they report in about every 30 mins or so.

People in AL need to be worried, it's good that they're getting prepared. Not much more to say, as everyone has been doing an great job posting. Got to go watching the perfect storm on channel 4.
