So far no news as to the local EOC being activiated, although there is now an inland hurricane wind warning in effect. And as of now Polk County Schools are scheduled to be open for business Monday.
Either the local officials are taking their time waiting until the last minute or they apparantly are not expecting much from Jeanne.

Be carefull !!!
I think we are just seeing the eye wobble. I'm always seeing movement that turns out not to be there after the eye wobbles around again. I think it's still on the West track.
Cocoa beach being spared? Heck it's blowing good already in Daytona......
Stay safe

I received this PM from a concerned poster...since I am not a met, I am not qualified to render an answer that could have possibly life-threatening consequences...
Anyone out there who is qualified to give an answer, please do:
"Hey I just came online for a second just finishing the preps. My moms in Vero Beach I am basically Pompano Beach/Ft. Lauderdale line. Should I bring her down here? Her house is fine from Francis but has no shutters... just the heavy duty 3 mm shutters. Whats your feeling on this one? Is Vero in for a slamming?"

Our NWS local forecast says to expect 87-90 MPH winds so I would think EOC should consider activating in Polk. I would say MOST people here don't live in mobile homes. We even have cable and indoor plumbing

You are correct, I believe we have the most mobile homes in the country. Some of us are just a little defensive b/c of all the negative press we get.

that after Andrew due to the stricter standards a number counties (mainly in South Florida) placed on construction/mobile home parks some park owners "checkerboarded" older trailers or sold them to people in counties, such as Polk, which did not update their requirments, or did so before others did so those mobile homes could be "grandfathered".

NHC estimating 125 MPH at landfall...just 5MPH short of CAT IV Status.
Anyone in the warning area needs to finish preps NOW and get ready for a whallop...
I'm praying for the Rabbit to come online and work his patented Rabbit Voodoo Hex...anything to spare the coast...
Better be prepared for a MONSTER...

18 YO son at FIT in Melbourne. Should I have him stay on campus or get over to Indian River Colony Club and hole up in his grandmothers home? Can anyone familiar with the area tell me what is best for him to do?

listen to local officials. Campus community is probably instructing folks where to go. Not a bad idea, though, to have your son stay with grandmother and take protective measures.

We are unprepared here in the Tampa Bay area right now. I think emergency management is trying to avoid repeating the areawide panic attack that incited. Jeanne is only 24 hours from seriously impacting our area! Where is the preparation? We have to start evacuating mobile home residents, or this could be serious. Nobody I have spoken with is cognizant of the impending situation with Jeanne. The local media coverage has been sorely lacking, and most of them downplayed Jeanne's impact yesterday evening (when most people watch), by foolishly clinging to the exact track of the 's 5pm advisory.

FIT will be far better off than the IRCC. Have him stay put and "hunker down"
*EDIT
Sorry - far better off is probably the wrong choice of words.
FIT is inland a good amount and has plenty of property surrounding it - solid construction.
IRCC is inland but there's a lot of open area surrounding it - making it more prone to wind effects.
He won't really be better or worse off either way.
