The National Weather Service, which controls the National Hurricane Center, lost its top two leaders Friday: David Johnson and John E. Jones Jr.
On the Web | NOAA.gov
The top two leaders of the National Weather Service announced their departures Friday, two days after the director of the National Hurricane Center blasted the federal overseers of both agencies.

David Johnson, director of the National Weather Service since January 2004, said he would step down on June 30. John E. Jones Jr., the service's deputy director since 1998, will retire the same day after 35 years in the government.

they insist this was planned not a reaction to proenza's comments [Re: Multi-Decadal Signal]

This was covered by all the papers down here.

They insist they had planned to do so anyway. Probably just a coincidence or maybe Proenza knew they were retiring.

One of them alluded to frustration in an email but he wasn't available for comment.

Either way, working for the government can take years off your life if you let frustration get to you and... seeing as how you can retire relatively early, there is logic there. 30 years at a job is a long time.
