A bit of a break?
      #80977 - Thu Jul 24 2008 09:40 AM

A couple of areas of interest, but both of them are in the Far Eastern Atlantic, and with Dolly swirling herself out in Southern Texas and Northern Mexico, time to turn our eyes east again. Firstly, NHC has out a >20% chance of development on a little wave with some cyclonic turning evident, and then there is a huge glob of convection that just emerged off of the African Coastline, presumably associated with a wave, but with no turning evident so far.

Is there anything I missed?

There is a broad circulation with what is still being called Invest 97L and it is still over relatively cool water. The "blob" just off the African coast certainly looks impressive on the 18:15Z visual sat. pic. I'm a little surprised that it hasn't been mentioned by NHC as yet.

The "Blob" looks less like a blob and more like a Tropical Depression from the latest EastAtlant Infrared Satellite imagery. I think I see some banding features around the outer edges of this area, and there does appear to be some cyclonic turning within the convection, though I'm not sure where precisley it appears to be centered at.

As usual, it has become rather disorganized by this morning like most disturbances have when moving off the African continent. As it moves westward, we'll see if it remains viable.
