Ike is a very large storm. I'm in Tallahassee, 442 miles from the center of Ike, and we are about to get outerbands from the storm with winds of 40 - 50mph expected. Incredible.

As of 7 am this morning water was half way into my parents' yard. They live off of Dog River close to Mobile Bay. We just cleaned up the water line from Gustav. Now, the water is all the way to their house. Thankfully, the tide has already reached its high at 11 am. I went outside at lunch (I work off of Water Street, right by Mobile Bay) and thought it had stormed without me knowing and then looked around to see the ground wasn't wet.......... it was Mobile Bay I was seeing on Water Street. Amazing!!!

it is so amazing that a storm so far away could effect us, some street flooding near north bay in lynn haven fl (outter area of panama city) just happened during high tide this morning, but the local police had to close some roads and some houses had to of had little water in them. having some wind with stronger gusts,, Ike has to be hundreds of miles away, and still we get a little,,,,amazing!!!

Amazing how far the storm surge affects the tide. HurricaneTrack.com had some video of the tide in Waveland, MS. I was in Lynn Haven last summer, I know exactly where that is.

I just checked out Water Street here in Mobile, Alabama (outside my door at work) and the water is still rising. We have until 11:30 for high tide and the water is higher than it was yesterday I really am praying for all of us along the Gulf Coast. The cars zooming through the water look more like speed boats than vehicles.

I'm in The Woodlands, TX... ~30miles north of Houston and ~80miles north of Galveston. Current path has Ike's eye on top of us at about 9am tomorrow morning. 70mph+ winds. Currently high cirrus overcast, outerbands... no rain yet. steady 10mph+ wind gusting to ~15mph. Plan on posting updates as long as I have connection. Hoping for pics and some video as well.

hey richemj, I am just south of you on the edge of the woodlands/Spring area. I've been up on my roof boarding up this morning and we've had a couple of times where an outer band has come through and it's probably been more like 15-20 sustained for a couple of minutes with a gust or two close to 30 or so. A lot of people waiting until the last minute around here to board up and I don't know if they are going to make it by the time the stronger winds and rain hit.
The current projected path has the eye going just slightly to our West, and we are expected winds between 85 and 95 mph according to this page:

I was just outside and even though we're pretty far away from Houston the wind just switched to NE and picked up a lot. Puffy clouds are starting to come in too.

Here in Lafayette, La we have been experiencing winds of about 17 mph with gusts of about 24 mph but it seems to be picking up somewhat with periods of hard rain due to outer rainbands.
Later this evening, we are supposed to have tropical storm winds which can be a problem because trees that have been comprimised with Hurricane Gustav have a good chance of coming down with tropical storm winds. Not to mention, the ground is still wet from the rain from Gustav.
We are under a Flash Flood watch until Sunday. The Vermillion River is already extremely high so, no doubt, homes living along the river will be at risk for flooding.

I'm 306 miles from Galveston in Plano, TX and we just started to get a light breeze that sets off the motion detectors (about an hour ago). So that shows how far into Texas it's affecting already.
