The formerly non-tropical low that has been watched for a few days has acquired sufficient organization and intensity to become a tropical storm, , the first of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The newly-named tropical cyclone is not anticipated to impact land as a tropical cyclone, and is no threat to the U.S.
This is only the 2nd time a tropical storm has formed in April in the Atlantic since satellite based tracking began.
