newbie needs east coast swell link
      #70400 - Tue Aug 22 2006 01:42 AM

here in california we are spoon fed long range swell forecasts that have gotten increasingly accurate. combined with improving wind forcasts as well, inland surfers are now much more efficient at scoring waves us locals only enjoyed.

now that i have found myself venturing to the east coast more often, i need to learn how to track hurricane (and TD) swells.

dont suppose someone has a good public link to those special few who track these swells through the eyes of a surfer, specifically for Montauk, NY?

thanks, darren

Surfline.com gives a really good surf forecast for both coasts and the Gulf, so they might be a good place to start. If you're looking for data to make your own forecast, then the NDBC webpage (http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov) or output from the WaveWatch III model (http://polar.ncep.noaa.gov/waves/main_int.html) might be good places to start from.
