At 27/15Z, Tropical Storm Flossie was located at 17.8N 139.3W or about 1000 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii, with sustained winds of 55 knots, central pressure of 997MB and movement to the west northwest at 17 knots. Flossie has started to weaken with slightly cooler (26C) SSTs at and ahead of the system and increasing dry air and windshear should continue the weakening process. Flossie should clip the northeast coast of the Big Isle on Monday evening as a weakening 40-45 knot Tropical Storm and pass just south of Oahu on Tuesday morning/afternoon as a minimal TS or borderline TS/TD. Heavy rain squalls likely in the Hawaiian Islands from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. At 27/18Z responsibility for monitoring Flossie will transfer from to CPHC (Honolulu).

At 30/03Z, Tropical Depression Flossie was located about 30 miles north of Maui moving to the west northwest and continuing to weaken. Flossie should become a post tropical cyclone near Niihau and dissipate in a couple of days near the French Frigate Shoals. Heavy rainsqualls are likely over the Islands on Tuesday. Highest reported winds were gusts to 43mph on Oahu in the NW Forest Reserve and also on Lanai. Mt Haleakala on Maui (@10kft) reported a gust to 51mph.
