Nice job Jamiewx! Cloud tops were as high as 65kft. Things are quieting down now, but Brevard County really got hammered earlier this evening with a few small tornados and some reports of hail. We had a weak negative strike on the property about 25 yards due west of the house. The bolt hit at the base of a large southern pine about 5 feet above the ground and the strike point smoldered and flickered a few flames for about 20 minutes before the rain cooled it down. Bettye saw the bolt hit (like a sharp gunshot) from the back porch. About 20 minutes later the rain stopped for a short while and I went out to check out the tree. The tree is fine - not cracked or split - and you could barely find the impact point, and it had already totally cooled down, so it must have been a very weak strike. And thats close enough for me, thank you very much
Cheers,
ED
