One interesting tidbit. In all the time of keeping records there has never been a storm that started where Rita did that will have made landfall as far west as where she is projected to make landfall. In fact, I believe all of the storms that started forming where she did ended up hitting Louisiana or east of there. So this would be a first if she hits Texas, or even north Mexico.
