96L #2?

Early and mid last week I watched 96L Invest as it began to grow ever so slightly as it approached the northern part of South America. It then disintegrated into an open system as it moved further westward.
Now, there is a new 96L Invest on the Navy/NRL Tropical Cyclone page that is many hundreds of miles further to the east of where the remnants of the first 96L Invest would be.
Can someone explain two systems with the same name within such a close time frame?
