Major Hurricane Flossie heading west
      Sat Aug 11 2007 05:23 PM

Flossie has intensified dramatically since yesterday, going from a 65 kt. Cat. 1 storm at this time yesterday to a 115 kt. Cat 4 storm currently. It looks like Flossie is probably peaking, as the cloud tops have warmed a little and the eye is looking a little more ragged the last couple hours. It will be interesting to see how quickly the storm weakens over the next few days as it moves over cooler waters. Official NHC forecast brings it below hurricane strength by the time it reaches the longitude of the Big Island and keeps the storm a couple hundred miles south of the islands. However, the last NHC discussion (CPHC will be taking over the advisories from this point on) did leave open the possibility of a farther right track.
