heat wave continues in augusta...

broke another record here today... 103 over an 89 year old 101. it's been commonplace to tie or break records for most of a fortnight, now. here's the rundown for august so far:

so far... 7 new record highs (**), 3 ties (*). 1 new high is a tie of the august monthly and all-time station record ( *** ).

forecast has a couple more days near 100 then cooling off in the weekend and next week. gfs is showing the ridging persisting, though, with 500mb heights over 594dm but for a brief respite around sunday... and little precip in the area. after a week they start to fall back to normal and the ridge is shown dying out. whether this will work out with a hurricane pumping it... and considering the tendency of models to generalize features past a few days... i wouldn't be surprised if the heat keeps dragging on. gotta admit, though.. the records get tough to break next week. i'll update this thread with the actual numbers as august plods on.

okay, that's it for august... pretty telling that the only day of the month the temperature wasn't above normal was august 3rd. think we just scored the hottest august for the station.
