We may need a new term. Instead of rapid intensification, maybe explosive intensification is a better descriptor. This type of intensification seems to be becoming more frequent with each season. Headlines are calling Erin a rare Category 5 hurricane, but storms are reaching Cat 5 more frequently. At any rate, Erin will be one for the history books and, hopefully will remain a fish spinner.
