I rough plotted the recon flight. The closest they got was about 200NM NE of the storm center. Here is the interesting part of the flight. Due to the pressure gradient between Matthew and the E Coast High. The winds, at flight level, were actually higher over the Mouth of the Mississippi River, than they were 200 miles from the storm.
