I have personally chased and intercepted hurricanes for over 20 years. Have chased hurricanes in various locations from points from Texas to North Carolina to Puerto Rico. I still do chase hurricanes, but on a more selective and "part-time" level due to factors of real life ( i.e. - family, job, etc. ).
Without a doubt, in all my years of contacts and experiences, the person who I would absolutely recommend you speak with is - Jim Leonard. He has chased Atlantic Hurricanes, Pacific Typhoons, and Southern/Central U.S. Plains Tornadoes for longer than anyone I have ever known ( or met ). Aside from the fact that he is a friend of mine, I can tell you that he is well known by other Hurricane and Tornado chasers, as well as a number of those ( past and present ) with the National Hurricane Center.
