At 13/12Z, Cyclone Giovanna was located in the western South Indian Ocean at 18.7S 51.5E moving west southwest at 12 knots with a central pressure of 929mb and sustained winds of 125 knots gusting to 150 knots (Cat IV). Landfall expected at 13/22Z about 50 miles south of Tamatave along the east central coast of Madagascar. Extreme damage to the biodiverse environment is likely as Giovanna crosses Madagascar. The cyclone should regenerate to tropical storm status before final landfall on Mozambique, Africa.
