TV Series

Hi,

I work for a television production company in London called Impossible Pictures, one of England’s foremost science documentary production companies. We are working on a series for broadcast in the US about severe weather; about the people that study it and new technologies that are being developed to mitigate it. The idea is to follow a real weather chaser, as they track the severe weather, and throughout these scenes we will keep returning to look at the work of scientists and engineers who are developing technologies that may one day help to mitigate the effects of these storms.

The first programme we are making is looking at Hurricanes. As you know, the Hurricane season is now well and truly here, and we’re trying to develop a relationship with a hurricane chaser, with the aim of following them as they chase the biggest storm of this season.

If anyone is interested in taking part, or is just available for a quick chat about hurricane chasing, please do get in contact with me by emailing richard.wyllie@impossiblepictures.co.uk

Many thanks,
Richard

Hey RIchard I will forward this (and the email) along to my friends Mike Watkins and Mark Sudduth who actually do chase the hurricanes. We're not quite that crazy. But I know Mike Watkins fairly well and Mark not so much, and they fit the bill nicely, their site is over at http://www.hurricanetrack.com

I have personally chased and intercepted hurricanes for over 20 years. Have chased hurricanes in various locations from points from Texas to North Carolina to Puerto Rico. I still do chase hurricanes, but on a more selective and "part-time" level due to factors of real life ( i.e. - family, job, etc. ).

Without a doubt, in all my years of contacts and experiences, the person who I would absolutely recommend you speak with is - Jim Leonard. He has chased Atlantic Hurricanes, Pacific Typhoons, and Southern/Central U.S. Plains Tornadoes for longer than anyone I have ever known ( or met ). Aside from the fact that he is a friend of mine, I can tell you that he is well known by other Hurricane and Tornado chasers, as well as a number of those ( past and present ) with the National Hurricane Center. There have been multiple times we have been either accompanied by the media, or filmed by them, and/or video taken highlighted on t.v. as well. His web site is: www.cyclonejim.com

While I may or may not chase a hurricane this year, will depend on differing factors - I have no doubt that Jim will be. Feel free to contact me directly, in the event you need any additional information or direct contact numbers for Jim. I can equally be reached at: weathernet@bellsouth.net.
