Gustav is probably not a cat 3 hurricane any longer (if it is, such winds would be confined to the western eyewall fragment), but it is still a formidable hurricane with a large wind field. Hopefully, the levees hold and everyone is out of harm's way.

No, can´t be a cat. 3 with 91 kt max. flight level winds during the last center pass. Conditions in NO seem to be surprisingly well with 25-30 mph averidge wind in the city area and no threatening flood levels in the canals.

Well, eye managed to somewhat reform.
Latest recon says 30nm circular eye. Land based radar sees it too.
However, recon also said:
MULTIPLE SMALL BREAKS IN WALL CLOUD
UNABLE TO FIX SFC CNTR

From NO radar I say the Northern eye wall is moving on a line thru Houma and just East of Morgan City.
Up the Atchafalaya River Basin.
I think slow down is imminent.

On visible it really looks like landfall

I know they are busy but would like some confirmation.
Also, worried on how much weather there is far from the center of Gustav and people not expecting tornadoes that far away.
Could be a lot worse, if that cycle had continued..another 3 hours and he may have come in as a Cat 3 though from when I was in Andrew I can tell you knowing the storm went down in windspeed 5 mph does not make you feel a whole lot better.
Beautiful pic for a deadly storm.

All the national news channels are now reporting that floodwaters are now overtopping the Industrial Canal Levee and also the Lower 9th Ward Levee. Hopefully, the levees will hold and not erode, but the water is rising and will continue to rise throughout the day. EOC in these areas are beginning to come increasingly concerned about this.
